Acne is one of the most common skin problems affecting people worldwide and a general misconception is that acne affects only teenagers, but many are surprised to learn that adults also suffer from this same inconvenience. Although it is most common in teenagers it can still affect anyone and with almost nine out of every ten people having to deal with it at some point it is probably the prevalent condition on the planet.
Acne is the result of clogged hair follicles, caused by the overproduction of sebum, which is from the sebaceous glands but oil alone doesn’t clog pores nor does oily skin necessarily equal acne. Acne seems to be a condition that is not necessarily a natural one and something that past generations did not suffer with.
But the clogged pores which are the main cause of acne can also be the result of contemporary substances like cosmetics, pollution and even the hormone adjustments many young people go through. Other factors can be responsible to, like the consumption of too much junk and reprocessed food, which is high in unhealthy sugars.
In more serious cases of acne, some of the proprietary treatments may not be effective and it may be necessary to see a dermatologist. In most cases, a follow-up visit will be scheduled so that the doctor may monitor the patient’s progress and determine whether additional steps should be taken to treat the problem. The person suffering with acne must remember not to scratch at or attempt to remove and pimples as any bacteria carried beneath the nails could cause further infection.
Germs and bacteria are not normally seen by the naked eye so just because the fingernails look clean does not actually mean they are. So wherever possible, it is advisable to keep the hands, especially fingernails away from any acne spots.
Research has shown that if your parents had acne, you’ll probably have it as well and very few people have perfect skin, so it is a very common skin disorder among almost every single person. In the vast majority of acne cases though, it is caused by the transition from a child to an adult and the changes that take place during this period. Acne can cause emotional problems for sufferers, especially when they are young so it is advisable that the opinion of a dermatologist be sought for further treatment.
